Scott Turner
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Eric Scott Turner was born in February 1972 in Richardson, Texas. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on a full academic and athletic scholarship. Turner became a professional cornerback in the NFL.
Turner worked as an intern during football’s offseason for a U.S. representative from California. He ran unsuccessfully for a U.S. House seat in 2006, then moved back to Texas. He was elected to a seat in the Texas Legislature in 2012 and won reelection.
During his first term, President Donald Trump appointed Turner director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. After winning election to his second term, President Trump nominated Turner to be Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in November 2024. The Senate confirmed him and he was sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas on February 5, 2025.
Turner is married to Robin, and they have a son. He is a Baptist and an associate pastor at his church.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner recently spoke at a roundtable discussion held by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte. He commended the state’s reduction in the number of children in state foster care due to participation in the Melania Trump Foster Youth to Independence program. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services reported that the number has decreased from more than 3,300 in foster care in early 2021 to 1,749.
Secretary Turner said, “Montana has taken the steps to support adoption, strengthen partnerships with faith-based organizations, community organizations, and help young people in foster care build a strong foundation for the future. And that’s why I’m here.”
The HUD secretary explained the national status, saying, “Twenty thousand young people transition out of foster care every year… and one in four become homeless in a very short period of time — within four years — and that’s a serious challenge, and one that at HUD that we’re here to help to alleviate.”
Secretary Turner continued, “At the same time, many are already working, continuing their education, making plans for their future. And our role at HUD is to help support that progress, to bridge the gap, and to create a pathway to greater independence for our foster youth.”
